Brief
Background
Thothathri
Raman is a unique combination of a Senior Business Editor,
Professor of Management, Award Winning Author, Knowledge consultant,
HR Quality champion, B-schools ratings expert and a well-known
campaigner for bringing in global benchmarks of quality through
International Accreditation. He pioneered the rating and ranking
process for business schools in India, and has been running
India’s largest B–school rating at Business India,
with whom he is associated as a Consulting Editor.
With over three decades of professional experience, Mr. Raman
is widely networked with Indian and International corporate
and academia. He has the track record of having worked with
some of the best known publications of the country, including
Financial Express, Business World, The Hindu, Economic Times,
Observer of Business and Politics and Business India.
He is also credited with revamping the
Indian Management Journal, the largest circulated management
journal of All India Management Association (AIMA), as its
editor for four years. Mr. Raman has written and published
seven books on management and edited 14 others for AIMA,
DMA and other leading business schools. His next book “The
Other Brother”, extolling a unique concept of philanthropy
in education, successfully working for the last eight decades
at PSG Coimbatore, is due for release in a few weeks. Currently,
he is working on a book on corporate leadership.
His biggest contribution to date is to
bring all the top rated international accreditation agencies
to India to showcase their quality benchmarks through a
series of conferences he has conducted through an exclusive
platform that he has created, called the Standards for Educational
Advancement and Accreditation (SEAA). The series of conferences
across the country brought AACSB International, AMBA, EQUIS,
ACBSP and IACBE, the Top Five global accreditation agencies
in that order, to India. The next conference on International
Accreditation is scheduled to take place in Bangalore on
22 February 2010.
Through the efforts of SEAA, AMBA inducted the first Indian
on its Board and a second Indian is joining the Board of
IACBE of the USA. Indian experts joining the international
accreditation agencies boards would help greatly in conveying
the local ground realities when the accreditation process
kicks in. Mr. Raman’s work with NHRDN has been well
acknowledged and he has been advising the association on
the supply side of HR and has been a key contributor to
the national debate on HR quality. He has played a key role
in bringing out the HRD Newsletter for past five years.
He is represented on several National and international
Associations, Business Schools and Institutions as advisor,
mentor or lifetime member. He is the only non-HR person
to be inducted to the national board of India’s largest
association of HR professionals, the National HRD Network
(NHRDN). He is also a member of the Management Accreditation
committee of National Board of Accreditation (NBA) of the
All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE).
He is a member of the International Association of Ecommerce
Consultants, Atlanta, USA. He is also a member of IIT Roorkee
syllabus making panel. Mr. Raman also teaches at some of
India’s prestigious management schools like MDI Gurgaon,
IMT, BIMM & SCMLD Pune etc., He is a founding member
of the Board of Governors of Asian School of Business Management
(ASBM) Bhubaneshwar.
He is a member
of a number of professional bodies including the International
Association of E-commerce Consultants
www.eccouncil.org He is a strong advocate of self regulation
through accreditation and a market driven growth for b-schools
in India. He addresses many public forums regularly
around the country on the theme of quality in management
education and has been campaigning hard for compliance led
growth of management education in India.
