What are the aspects that one should look at while planning a quality management journal?
Title and Periodicity: Fix your title and periodicity and get the title registered with the Registrar of Newspapers of India (RNI) or any
other equivalent authority in your country. Decide whether it should be a monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly, bi-annual or an annual publication. The best
preference is a quarterly.
Contents and editorial policy: It is absolutely imperative that the editorial policy and nature of content is decided. This is best done
through an Editorial Advisory Board and a Panel of Editors.
Editorial Advisory Board: Don't collect the best known names
for merely adorning your list of advisory board members. This may prove to be
negative. Instead choose those who would contribute their ideas and also their
writing.
Cost control :Costs are important aspect of planning a
journal. The important cost components would be paper, production, distribution
and editorial costs. Review these periodically and get a fix on these.
Guidelines to authors, style book: Draw up a clear cut editorial policy and communicate to the authors through a
Guidelines to Author Section. Prepare a style book for language, presentation
and font selections. Have a clear view of using visuals, charts, cartoons etc.,
Editor and her team: Be sure to have a hands on editor
and not a figure head and give her a strong set of assistants. It does not need
more than three to four dedicated people including the Editor to bring out a
reasonably great quality management journal.
